Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

My thoughts?

This book was a little confusing for me. The final book in the Divergent trilogy definitely got the fans reeling. It was the first time we've seen Veronica Roth master the 2 points of view craze that many YA authors have been turning to. Did it work? Well, how should I put this? No. It didn't. Every other paragraph the POV would switch between Tris and Tobias, and to be honest, both narrators sounded exactly the same, I wasn't even sure who was talking at one point, I had to flick back to remind me who it actually was. There was no distinction between their thoughts and ideas. That's slightly worrying considering Tris is a girl and usually talks about her feelings a lot more than we'd assume Tobias would. We did see another side to Tobias, which to be fair, I didn't really like. He came across insecure, whiny and pathetic. His badboy macho look just kind of disappeared from the get-go. It made me so disappointed.

The Plot?

It really felt like I was reading a completely different book. Like Veronica just kind of decided she didn't like the Divergent world with factions and stuff, and just decided to switch it all up. It took away from the original concept that we all loved from the first two books, and I know a lot of people really didn't like that about the plot. HOWEVER, it was very well written and it was very intriguing, so I can't fault her on that. We finally got to see what was beyond the gates. I feel like it was slightly predictable, I did guess that it would be kind of a 'big brother' set up, and I wasn't far off. I just think it was so odd that the whole outside world was in such a mess, for a really disappointing reason. Genetics? Really? I just expected so much more and felt a little let down at that.

The Ending?!

Okay, I'm not going to give anything away, but wow that was so unexpected. It put me off the whole series. I'll be watching the Divergent movie in a completely different way now, and I'm not sure that I liked that twist. I understand why it was done, I completely get that it fits in with the character and it did make sense, but I don't think it was executed properly, and it just seemed like it was all done for the wrong reasons which was a shame.

Overall, I think it was a let down for the complete trilogy. The first two books were better, but it wasn't a terrible book. After all I did finish it within 2 days, I couldn't put it down and I did really love reading it.
