Emmy & Oliver - Robin Benway

Emmy & Oliver - Robin Benway
"Emmy’s best friend, Oliver, reappears after being kidnapped by his father ten years ago. Emmy hopes to pick up their relationship right where it left off. Are they destined to be together? Or has fate irreparably driven them apart?" - Goodreads
*I received this book from NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.*

I love love love this book. I read it in one day, I read it in two sittings. I read it during the day, I read it during the night. I struggled with this book, I struggled to put it down. It was such a cute read.
Emmy was such a likeable character, which is a rare find these days, I wanted everything to work out for her, I wanted her to be happy and I usually never want that with fictional characters. I'm horrible I know.

One thing that really stood out to me in this book was the humour, I was around 15% in and had already LOL'd (literally) about 3 times. Their one-liners, their jokes, their banter was just amazing, and I think that's what really made this book special for me.

Oliver was a sweetheart, he's like the most perfect messed up person ever and it was just lovely. I loved their friendship, both Emmy & Oliver, but also with Caro and Drew. They had the friendship group that I've always wanted and I pined for the moments where they could all be together and hang out (which was often, so I was a happy bunny!)

There were a few aspects to this book that I didn't like, through no fault of the author, just the characters and their actions that really annoyed me. Which is good, because for a book to pull out such emotions from within me, it must mean that it's doing something right.

Emmy's parents were just nightmares. Complete and utter nightmares and I just wanted them to disappear and turn into normal parents. I honestly had to question how old Emmy was at some point, 7 or 17. I just wasn't sure. But I'm glad that Emmy & Oliver also knew that it wasn't right, so I guess it wasn't what Benway thinks is the normal 'parenting', which is relieving, I must say!

The end was my favourite, everything that was building up inside both of them just being released like that was just epic. I can't even begin to explain how happy I was, literally jumping up and down on my bed with happiness and cheering them on. I'm crazy, I know.

Overall, I loved this book and if it wasn't for those pesky parents, it would have been a 5* but I just can't help how irritated they made me, it knocked off half a star, so I gave this book a 4*(more like 4.5* on Goodreads!).

This book will be released on July 16th, so pre-order it now! Read it as soon as you get it, then come back and talk to me about it! Chop chop.
