Hair In All The Wrong Places - Andrew Buckley

Hair In All The Wrong Places - Andrew Buckley
"What has he done?

What's happening to him?

And what on Earth is that smell?

For Colin Strauss, puberty stinks. Blackouts, hallucinations, and lapses in memory are the perils of growing up werewolf.

Worse than that, Colin worries he might have had something to do with the recent attacks on the townspeople. He may have eaten a person. It doesn’t matter that it’s someone he doesn’t particularly like. What kind of boy goes around eating people?

Foolishly, all Colin can think about is how Becca Emerson finally kissed him for the first time. Yep, hormones are afoot. Yikes!

But girls will have to wait. Collin better get himself under control before someone else ends up hurt or worse . . . dead." - Goodreads

*A copy of this book was sent to me by the author and publisher in exchange for an honest review.*

I was a little sceptical about this book at first, I loved the idea of it but I thought it may have been a little too 'young' for me. I hate saying that because I do sometimes really enjoy books written for younger teens (rather than those in their twenteens) so I did want to give this a go and see how it turned out. Needless to say, I'm so happy that I decided to read this book, I really enjoyed it. It was great at first: interesting and mysterious, although it did get a little bit weird at the end! The writing was great, funny, easy to read. The MC Collin was really likeable, he was my favourite. He was a great character. I just really did enjoy this, it was different.

I don't know what I was expecting from this book, but the end certainly came as a surprise. I won't tell you what happens for fear of spoiling you (obviously) but I will tell you that things get a little bit weird. Okay, a lot weird. Really very weird, but in a good way. I couldn't see where the story was going or how it was going to end, I didn't want it to be a boring ending, like 'and then he came to terms with the fact that he's a werewolf and lived happily ever after'. I wanted fun, action and a set up for a sequel. That is exactly what we got.

Collin was a great character, I can't tell you how many times I literally laughed out loud at some of his comments, so witty for such a young age. I really liked the humour that this book had, it lightened it up a bit and made things seem less serious than they were, I think that was because of the age group this was written for. I would love an alternative more adult version of this same book, I think it could be amazing if it were darker and more in-depth.

There was one character that I really didn't like throughout the whole book, Becca. I got an awfully bad vibe off of her, I just didn't trust her at all. I still don't. I didn't like how Collin had such a massive crush on her, I thought he could do so much better. I became a little bit protective of him, I won't lie!

The middle/ending of the book left me a little... baffled? I didn't see any of it coming, I had my theories of course but none were right. I don't know if I liked the way it turned out, I don't think it was very realistic or believable (although, it is a book about a kid turning into a werewolf, so should it even need to be realistic?!). It didn't make sense to me. I think it's a great set up for a sequel though, I'd love to learn more about it, or even a prequel to see how it started. That might be good too!

I loved the fact that the werewolves could talk to each other with their minds, I love anything telekinetic so of course I'd praise this. I really want to learn more about everything that we've discovered so far in the book, especially all the special powers they have, it's fascinating.

Overall, this was such an enjoyable read, although I did have a few issues, they were easily overlooked. It was a quick, fun read and I rated it 3* on Goodreads!
